A Message from
Executive Board Chairperson
Chief Karen Sullivan
Dear Colleagues:
Welcome to our new Web site. As we develop the site, I hope you will find the information useful and visit our domain often. New Jersey Women in Law Enforcement is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. As we reach this milestone, it gives us the opportunity to reflect on not only where we have been, but also where we need to go. Many of the founding female law enforcement executives whose vision began this organization have retired from active police service but continue to support the ideals of which NJWLE was founded. To that end, I wanted to share a few of my personal reflections as I assume the role of Executive Board Chairperson.
Anyone who knows me knows I am a crazy, yes crazy University of Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball fan. Recently, I watched as Pat Summitt won her 1,000th game. This woman demonstrates what it means to be a confident, strong, professional with a sustained record as a leader over a long period of time; many of the qualities you possess as women in law enforcement. After the win she spoke of the importance of having a vision and talking about that vision. I can tell you that I am looking forward to continuing to create and fulfill the vision of NJWLE and your vision as women in our great profession. I have a profound respect for our past chairperson, Chief Lynn Centonze (Retired) who worked tirelessly to provide leadership as this organization developed. I am fortunate to follow in her footsteps and will continue to look to her accomplishments with great admiration, as I am grateful for her advice and input.
The goals of NJWLE remain steadfast toward supporting the recruitment, retention and promotion of women in law enforcement; advocating for high quality training as demonstrated in our annual training conference; establishing communication links to encourage members to network, mentor and exchange ideas and to participate in community service projects such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and the Police Unity Tour.
I continue to be inspired by the dedication and professionalism of the women of New Jersey who have chosen police work as their career. Our accomplishments are many and our challenges are great. I look forward to your comments and suggestions. NJWLE is your organization. We need your participation to make it work. Put very simply, together we can make things happen! Please feel free to contact me at ksull53246@aol.com to be added to our email list. Also we encourage you to join NJWLE. Information and the membership application are available here on line. Keep checking this site for the latest information, training conference news and coming soon, our Members Only area.
Be well and stay safe,
Chief Karen Sullivan
Executive Board Chairperson
